For LP monitoring, fund deployment shows how much of the investable pool a manager has put into portfolio companies. It does not by itself establish deployment quality, pacing discipline or the adequacy of follow-on reserves.
What does fund deployment mean?
It means committing investable fund capital to portfolio investments under a consistent definition of deployed capital.
Can deployed capital exceed investable capital?
Not in this simple model. If recycling or leverage changes available capital, adjust the investable-capital denominator.
Does this include committed but unfunded deals?
Only if you include them in the deployed-capital input; use one definition consistently.
